The George F. Baker Scholars Program was founded in 1973 to cultivate business leaders who are intellectually inspired and socially conscious. The Baker Program seeks exceptional sophomores in Georgetown College who have demonstrated a strong academic record, dedication to service, and an active interest in business.
The Baker program offers a unique opportunity for Georgetown College students to experience the world of business firsthand. Dynamic in nature, the program enables Scholars to develop and lead initiatives such as: retreats and educational business trips, in-depth discussions with industry leaders, and focused group projects. Community service also is an integral part of the Baker experience. Baker Scholars exemplify the Jesuit ideal of women and men for others.
Bakers are motivated and talented in different ways and represent a diversity of background and life experiences. Scholars are expected to make meaningful contributions to the program, to Georgetown, and to their communities. The Baker alumni, over 300 strong, actively participate in the program, serving as Trustees, mentors, career counselors, advisors and friends to current Scholars and to one another. To become a Baker is to be a Baker for life. For more information about the Baker program, please visit the George F. Baker Scholars Program web site.
A joint team of Baker Trustees and Program Administrators from the Georgetown College Dean's Office reviews all completed applications and selects a group of candidates for interviews through a highly selective process. Current Baker Scholars conduct interviews with semi-finalists. Finalists will spend part of a day in more intensive interviews with small groups of Baker Trustees and Administrators. Based on an evaluation of the candidates' applications, feedback from Scholar interviews, and results of the small group interviews, the Trustees and Administrators select the incoming class of Baker Scholars. These students are eligible to receive financial assistance based on need as determined by the University's Office of Student Financial Services.
Please note: Students who are studying abroad for one semester of their Junior year are eligible to apply for the Baker Scholars Program. Students who will be abroad for the full academic year are not eligible for the Baker Scholars Program.
